It's only 14 days more counting down to our country national day. Recently, many issues evoke a bitter retort by many parties here in Malaysia. The most interesting news which I pay much attention of is the edited version of Negaraku by Wee Meng Chee. Briefly describe his situation, for those who doesn't know, he had post a modified rap version of the Negaraku on Youtube and it was widely spread in the Singapore and Malaysia region. I get to know this clip before the fiesta begins. His action by doing this has cause strong reaction by the government. Till this day, he has already apologize after the long pressure from the media and the government. Even his family has been dragged into the crazy cyclone. During the night news, the government had announce that action legal will be taken on him because he has broke the law. Many feedback and comments about this topic are in the net which you can easily find out. According to some minister, this single piece of work can actually cause racial controversy once again. The fact is, Malaysian aren't as shallow as they think anymore. Many citizens in this country knows where to stand on. There are always 2 side of taking things. Whether you want to see this as a constructive criticism, or destructive scandal. We all know loving the country doesn't mean loving the government. He's mistake maybe using the Negaraku to channel his thoughts. There are parts in the song which might show disrespect for others, but undeniable that some parts are speaking the truth. We all known it and deep inside we really hope someone can help us voice that out, certainly we won't hope for our Parliament leaders to help us voice them. They have been there for almost 5 decades now are already rotten into our bones and no one seems to do any change. I am sure he is not the one who feels unfairness in himself, but everyone does. There are people who don't like Chinese, Malay, Indian, Iban, Kadazan, Muslims, Christain, Buddhist and many other identities which we carry everyday. Everyone has something to say and we should have the right to voice out their opinion and take comments in a constructive manner. I am sure issue will not the the last. We have learnt to think so much and are just told to keep our mouth shut. We should not talk about 'sensitive issues'.. That should make us good Malaysians? Freedom of speech will be flighted for sooner or later. I believe we are heading that way. And I'm confident enough that Malaysians are not stupid. We will not kill each other just because someone says' 'Hey, why Malays should have this this and this, and we only get this?' or 'Chinese open burning on the hungry ghost month, why isn't anyone controlling them?' These things should be said openly as communication is most important in maintaining relationships. Keeping sensitive issues away from conversation is not respecting each other in someway, it's just hiding the feelings which we feels will cause more explanations. If you love your country, build better society, better homes, better schools, better person. Don't let the government shape you as how they want you to be, but shape a government as how you want them to be.

Haih
If they talk openly about the bloody issue, they would be in ISA by now.
It's not as easy as it seems but the government still think we are babis..oops I mean babies.
lol
There are lots of rings connected to each matter. I believe it is the same for this public issue. Why Chinese are not fighting for Chinese whereas the minister who is Chinese are fighting against Chinese? Sometimes, things are not done because someone doesn't want it to be done..... We who are the future of the country, should start to do something about it, little by little......
Hey! Well said well said. I'm so proud of you because this piece of writing is mature, very rational, not too biased yet sort of making a stand.
I really hate the fact that people are even talking about REGULATING the internet. There must be a space on earth where you are allowed to say what you feel like saying and readers be tested to apply their discretion and judgement. That's how people develop themselves, that's how a country develop - by acquiring more intellect and opening up their minds; not forever being shielded from so-called negative influences.
In conjunction with Malaysia's 50th birthday, I would like to quote Aung San Suu Kyi about freedom: 'The only real prison is fear, and the only real freedom is freedom from fear'.
